Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College engaged SHA to design a ground-up Instructional Complex for their growing Allied Health Program.
The new facility serves as the Campus Welcome Center, Student Services Center and Student Success Center. Academically, it provides educational space for the College’s programs in Nursing, Radiography, Sonography and Respiratory Therapy. The program also includes a Learning Commons, Kitchen/Cafeteria, Science Labs and Classrooms.
Architecturally, the new Instructional Complex includes an historic exterior aesthetic coupled with modern interior spaces. The monumental stairway is oversized and includes casual seating to promote interdisciplinary student and faculty interaction. The second floor lounge includes a radial glass wall which provides natural light for the student study space. In response to student requests for more comfortable and usable exterior spaces the design includes a new patio with multiple seating arrangements, dietary and study spaces all complemented by tensile sunshades.
The project is LEED Silver Certified.
