SHA designed “The Gateway to NuLu” development at 552 E. Market St. for Campisano Capital, a New York City-based private investment firm led by a team of Louisville natives. Located at the border between downtown Louisville and the bustling NuLu neighborhood, The 552 will be a cornerstone development for the ongoing revitalization of this thriving residential and retail district.
The project encompasses the renovation of and vertical additions to a 1920’s-era furniture warehouse and showroom with 68,000 square feet of existing space. SHA integrated designs that highlight historic features while adding contemporary flourishes. Newly added windows respect the pattern and rhythm of the historic windows, while the addition of a new stair and elevator tower incorporates a more sleek and modern style. The vertical expansion of the Fourth Floor and the two-story expansion to the third and fourth floors added spacious and dynamic work areas with commanding views of downtown and the riverfront. Life safety features received upgrades and enhancements, including two new egress stair towers.
SHA provided a variety of architectural roles for the clients of the building, whose services include a restaurant, a daycare, a coffee shop, a shared collaborative work space, an event space, and multiple, flexible office spaces for a variety of growing tech companies.
